What an exciting time for downtown York! Thanks to support from the community, Downtown Inc is able to increase foot traffic in downtown York, make improvements to the physical appearance of our downtown district, and keep an increasing number of people in the loop about events and activities taking place downtown.

Our 2010 event calendar included First Fridays, themed walking tours, the second annual Downtown Kickball Tournament at Sovereign Bank Stadium, and a public York City Council Candidates’ Forum. In August, we hosted the Downtown First Awards and recognized businesses and individuals in eight award categories for their dedication to putting downtown York first through their financial and volunteer commitments and advocacy.

 We have continued our beautification efforts by adding potted flowers to the streetscape on Market and North George Streets. We further expanded our communications program to include several popular social networking sites. In addition to our e-newsletter, which is distributed to 1,500 subscribers, we now have over 1,200 Facebook fans and nearly 400 followers on Twitter, allowing us to bring news about all things downtown to new audiences.

We have also been working hard to recruit volunteers and our new committee members have hit the ground running. We are thrilled with the level of enthusiasm and expertise they bring to our organization. Our committees are making big plans for 2011 and with your support, those plans will foster the renaissance of downtown York.
