The second phase of Downtown Inc’s Pedestrian Wayfinding project is complete! Downtown Inc, the organization working to drive, enhance, and encourage investment in Downtown York is thrilled to announce the final phase of the installation of brand-new pedestrian wayfinding signage is now complete.
Pedestrian wayfinding will assist visitors in navigating between major attractions across our #HistoricallyEdgy Downtown York, PA! Pedestrian wayfinding goes beyond simple navigation; it plays a pivotal role in creating inclusive, accessible, and user-friendly public spaces while putting a spotlight on anchor attractions in the downtown.
The first part of this project was the Downtown York maps, installed in 2023, that can be found in all City of York parking garages and the Central Market York lot. The second portion of the project was completed in February and included the first phase of pedestrian-friendly signage. The next and final phase of the new wayfinding project will include updated vehicle wayfinding throughout Downtown York.
The Downtown Inc team collaborated with urban designers, led by Derck & Edson, LLC, City of York, and community stakeholders to implement this wayfinding. Downtown Inc would like to give a special thanks to Explore York County PA for their invaluable support in funding this project as part of their York County Tourism Grant program, York County Community Foundation for their support, and to FASTSIGNS York for design and production.
