Downtown York is more than a destination — it’s our shared home. Together, we work every day to enhance and foster reinvestment in Downtown York. Through leadership and community collaboration, Downtown Inc drives downtown’s prosperity and strives to be a national model for successful downtown organizations.
Our work is guided by four pillars: promotions, public safety, economic development, and placemaking — and each year, that work makes a measurable impact:
- More than $1 million in annual economic impact from Downtown Inc events
- Promotion of 200+ unique businesses across the three micro-districts, sharing information about hundreds of events
- $12,000 in First Friday grant funds distributed annually to merchants
- Celebration of 12 Merchant of the Month winners each year
- Replacement of five deteriorated trench drain covers to improve safety and accessibility
- Installation of new Downtown York wayfinding: 19 vehicular signs, 6 parking garage signs, 3 map kiosks, and 20 pedestrian signs
- Installed 18 new cigarette litter receptacles through a partnership with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful
- Continued partnerships with the Garden Club of York and the City of York to maintain 90+ hanging baskets, 230 on-street planters, and to mulch tree wells across all three micro-districts
- 50 new trees planted downtown
- Earned national and state Main Street accreditation for the first time since 2013
- Installed 8 new artistic crosswalks
- Served as the main communication hub between downtown merchants, officers, and community partners
- Deployed 130 additional law-enforcement hours on summer weekends in partnership with Better York
- Offered office hours at our Downtown Resource Center for new businesses, in partnership with the York City Police Department
- In just two years, the Downtown Clean & Green Team has collected over 9 tons of trash, contributed 9,000+ hours of cleaning efforts, and removes 80 bags of trash each week
- Added multiple new murals, supporting local artists and enhancing downtown’s creative identity
This Giving Tuesday (December 2), we invite you to invest in this work. Every contribution — big or small — helps us continue making Downtown York vibrant, welcoming, and full of possibility. Together, we can build a downtown where everyone belongs.
