Urban Street Tree Removal and Replacement ProjectDowntown Inc is pleased to announce a Request for Proposals (RFP) for an Urban Street Tree Replacement Project. Earlier this year, with the help of Bartlett Tree Experts, Downtown Inc completed an inventory of street trees in the York City Business Improvement District and major arterial streets and created an Urban Forest Management Plan to help guide street tree planting and maintenance. This project will begin to take actions based on the recommendations in that plan and will be organized into six (6) geographic work groups encompassing multiple city blocks. This initiative is made possible through a grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2), administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Bureau of Recreation and Conservation, using funds received through the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The selected firm will be responsible for tree removal, stump grinding, repairs to sidewalks (where needed), replanting, and initial establishment care of new street trees. Interested firms can view the full RFP here: Urban Tree Removal & Replacement Project Important Information: All questions regarding this RFP must be submitted in writing to Bronley Martin, Urban Revitalization Manager, and Sarah O’Brien, Director, at trees@downtownyorkpa.com no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4th, 2026. A public BID opening will be held on Friday, June 5th, 2026, 10:30 am, at the York County Economic Alliance, 144 Roosevelt Ave, York, PA 17401 Responses to all questions will be provided via written addendum to all interested parties. Please note that verbal responses are not binding. Downtown Inc reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and will select the proposal that best aligns with the interests of Downtown Inc and the City of York. We look forward to engaging with qualified firms that are passionate about urban forestry and helping shape a more sustainable future for Downtown York.

May is Preservation Month: The Stories Behind Downtown York’s Historic StreetsAcross the country, Main Street communities have long understood that preservation is not about “freezing” a downtown in time but rather it is about adapting historic places for modern use while maintaining the character that makes them unique. That philosophy is central to the Main Street Approach, a nationally recognized framework for downtown revitalization that emphasizes preservation-based economic development. Historic buildings create authentic experiences that cannot be replicated in suburban shopping centers or new construction developments. They attract entrepreneurs, residents, visitors, and investors looking for places with personality and a sense of place. In Downtown York, that approach is visible everywhere. -
