Downtown Inc Installs New Rail Trail Streetscape Project in Downtown York

Sep 18, 2023 | Blog

Downtown Inc, the organization committed to driving, enhancing, and encouraging investment in Downtown York has recently completed a new streetscape project, beautifying five crosswalks in the City of York that cross over the York County Heritage Rail Trail.

Earlier this summer, Downtown Inc put out a call for art and artists were asked to submit designs and a brief description during an application window that ran from May 16 to Monday, June 12. Submissions were received by a selection committee composed of partners and stakeholders in a blind process. Preferences were given to artists that reside in the City of York.

Designs were installed on Friday, September 15, 2023 by the selected artists in coordination with City of York Highway Department, members of the York County Economic Alliance and Downtown Inc team, and local artist, Annalisa Gojmerac. The designs are cutouts made from Stamark material, a product by 3M, that has a lifespan of approximately 7-10 years. The installed art depicts themes related to the Codorus Creek, the Rail Trail experience, Downtown York, and York City as a whole.

This project will increase pedestrian safety, beautify public spaces, and enhance the Rail Trail experience throughout Downtown York.

The crosswalks and artists included within the scope of this project are:

  • North Beaver Street—Daneen Collier
  • West Philadelphia Street—Annelise Vuono
  • West Market Street—Jeremy Slagle
  • West King Street—Jessica Cross
  • West Princess Street—Jasmine Perfect

Thank you to the partners who worked together to make this project come to life with Downtown Inc: City of York – Bureau of Health, York County Trail Towns, City of York Highway Bureau, and Annalisa Gojmerac.

Downtown Inc will look to possibly expand this project to additional crosswalks in Downtown York in 2024.
