Downtown Inc is proud to continue its long-standing collaboration with the Garden Club of York, bringing seasonal blooms back to the streets and public spaces that define our city. This year’s planting day, taking place Tuesday, May 12 in Continental Square, marks another successful effort to enhance Downtown York’s charm with vibrant floral displays. Beginning at 9am, the square fills with energy as volunteers gather for a day dedicated to beautification and community pride.
“Downtown Inc is deeply grateful to the Garden Club of York and their donors for their ongoing commitment to creating a more beautiful and welcoming environment in our downtown,” says Sarah O’Brien, Director of Downtown Inc. “This partnership is a powerful example of civic pride and collaboration, and their work brings color, joy, and life to our streets all season long.”
This annual transformation is made possible through the dedication of more than 50 Garden Club of York volunteers. Their efforts are supported by the City of York Department of Public Works, whose team assists with hanging baskets and installing shepherd hooks throughout the downtown. Together, these partners bring more than 286 hanging baskets and 114 container planters, funded by Downtown Inc, adding color and life across Downtown York’s three micro-districts.
“The Garden Club of York is honored to play a role in the seasonal transformation of Downtown York,” says Kim Keesee, Hanging Baskets and Containers Committee Chair of the Garden Club of York. “It is incredibly rewarding to see our efforts reflected in the beauty of the city, bringing color, warmth, and joy to everyone who lives, works, and visits here. Our members are proud to support the ongoing beautification of York, and this partnership with Downtown Inc continues to be a meaningful expression of that mission.”
Earlier this month, The Garden Faire on May 2 brings together everything you need—and plenty you didn’t realize you needed. Attendees explore a wide range of plants, garden accessories, and seasonal inspiration, with additional information easily accessible via QR codes featured on event materials.
As the flowers bloom and summer approaches, Downtown York invites everyone to take a stroll, explore the streets, and enjoy the seasonal displays that enhance our streetscape. These vibrant touches are more than just decoration—they reflect the generosity, creativity, and teamwork of local volunteers and community partners.
