Go Green in the City 2026: Celebrating Spring, Sustainability & Community in Downtown York

Apr 2, 2026 | Blog

Spring in Downtown York just feels different. The air is warmer, the sidewalks are buzzing, and doors are propped open as shops welcome you back after winter. It’s that unmistakable seasonal shift and there’s no better way to celebrate it than at Downtown Inc’s signature event: Go Green in the City co-presented by PA Health and Wellness & The York Water Company.

Now entering its 18th year, this beloved festival returns on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 10am–3pm, transforming Beaver Street and the surrounding blocks into a vibrant, eco-friendly street fair. With more than 50 vendors, live music, food, and hands-on activities, Go Green is a celebration of green, healthy, and local living, right in the heart of Downtown York.

A Festival That Welcomes Everyone

Go Green in the City is designed for all ages, but it’s especially magical for families. There’s something special about letting kids roam freely (and safely!) through the streets, exploring booth after booth of interactive experiences.

The Kid Zone, sponsored by York County Solid Waste Authority, is a must-visit. Kids can build, create, play, and explore eco-friendly activities that are hands-on, engaging, and just the right amount of messy. Food trucks and local vendors are ready with plenty of options to refuel, while live music keeps the energy high all day long.

Getting to Go Green is easy. Parking is just steps away at the Philadelphia Street Garage and King Street Garage, and both are stroller-friendly with elevators, making it simple for families with little ones.

Live Music Lineup

This year’s entertainment is all about feel-good, family-friendly vibes:

  • Caroline Rose | 10:00am–11:00am
  • The Basement Boys | 11:30am–1:00pm
  • School of Rock House Band | 1:30pm–3:00pm

Investing in a Greener Future

Downtown Inc, in partnership with Bartlett Tree Experts, conducted a comprehensive Tree Inventory and Urban Forest Management Plan, analyzing 820 trees and identifying nearly 1,900 potential planting sites across 17 miles of the city. This long-term plan ensures that York’s urban forest will continue to grow and thrive for generations.

The Downtown Clean & Green Team, powered by a partnership with ABM and sponsored by York County Solid Waste Authority and Powder Mill Foundation, is making a visible impact every day. Over the past two years, they’ve removed nearly 10 tons of litter, logged over 10,600 hours of service, and collected 80+ bags of trash weekly.

Join Downtown Inc and Affordable Housing Advocates and community partners for the 4th Annual Go Green Clean-Up sponsored by Servpro, on Friday, April 17 from 2pm–5pm. This volunteer-powered effort brings together local organizations, businesses, and neighbors to care for the spaces we all share.

Go Green in the City is more than a festival, it’s a reflection of who we are as a community. It’s about connection, creativity, and caring for the place we call home.
