Downtown Inc, the organization committed to driving economic growth and community vitality in Downtown York, has officially been recognized with national and state accreditation from Main Street America and the Pennsylvania Downtown Center. This is the first time Downtown Inc has achieved this prestigious status since 2013, representing a major milestone for both the organization and the broader York community.
The accreditation acknowledges Downtown Inc’s commitment to excellence in revitalizing Downtown York through strategic economic development, historic preservation, and community engagement efforts. Only select programs nationwide receive this designation, which is considered the gold standard for comprehensive downtown revitalization.

Downtown Inc’s accreditation comes after a rigorous review process which assessed organizational performance in areas such as economic vitality, promotion, design, and organization—the four points of the Main Street America approach.
Main Street America has been helping revitalize older and historic commercial districts for more than 40 years. Today, it is a network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities that share a commitment to place-based economic development and community revitalization.
The recognition positions Downtown Inc among the nation’s leading Main Street programs and sets the stage for continued growth, investment, and community pride in Downtown York.
