Despite the challenges of the past year, Downtown Inc has seen an influx of new businesses, expanding businesses, and continued success for many of our downtown merchants.
While Downtown York saw 10 businesses close in 2020 and the first half of 2021, a total of 32 businesses opened their doors in Downtown York with an additional 13 businesses expanding into larger or secondary locations. For the first time in recent memory, Central Market has filled all of its available vendor booths and currently has a waiting list.
While many main street communities around the country have witnessed small businesses closing their doors either indefinitely or permanently, Downtown Inc is proud to celebrate the success of our courageous and resilient business owners.
In explaining what the influx of new and expanding businesses means for the community, Elaine Bonneau, Director of Downtown Inc states, “Historically Edgy Downtown York is an entrepreneurial-minded community and we support our small businesses. Whether big or small, it’s a great place to start a business!”
